A number of travel stipends up to $1850 are available for students and early career professionals. Stipends are open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and early career post-doctoral researchers. To be eligible for this grant, you must attend the entire workshop in person, be affiliated with a US institution at the time of the workshop, and be traveling domestically. The application form for travel stipends is available now at this link. Applications are due by January 31, 2027, and notifications will be provided by February 15, 2027.
Scope, format, & audience¶
The objectives of this workshop are to increase communication across elements of the Planetary Data Ecosystem (PDE), increase reusability of technology and lessons-learned while decreasing unnecessary duplication of effort, and to engage in a community-driven process to assess the state of the ecosystem and user-community needs.
The first two days of PDW will be dedicated to plenary talks and large- and small-group discussions around the current and future state of the PDE. The second half of the conference will be devoted to training and capacity-building sessions. The specific schedule of training and capacity-building activities will be identified through a proposal and review process TBD. There will be one evening poster session.
The workshop is targeted towards all members of the planetary science community with an interest in the PDE, specifically bringing together those supporting research (technical staff, data providers, and software creators) and those using data (students and researchers). The plenary talks and panel discussions will be focused on raising awareness for PDE stakeholders of what tools and resources are available and identifying gaps in capabilities or unmet needs.
The training elements of the workshop will be primarily focused towards early career researchers, including undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty. We plan to offer some participant support to increase attendance by members of the community who could not otherwise attend due to funding constraints.
